Ascension Island Medical Staffing – Remote Paramedic

 

This assignment is a 3 months on/3 months off rotation with two paramedics per rotation.  Shift schedule is 24 hours on duty and 24 hours off (fire house model).

 

Location Background:

Ascension Island is very remote - located in the Atlantic Ocean just below the equator and between Brazil and Angola. It is the location of a shared United States and British military (Air Force) base and radio station. Patient demographic for these positions will be the on-site contract employees at the radio station. English is the official language of the island.

 

Working with Beacon OHSS operational and medical leadership, lead and support the overall day to day management of the Ascension Island USAF Project in the provision of the highest levels of medical services to all personnel working on the Ascension Island US Air Force Base. The work site is based at the medical facility on the Air Station and supports the on-site personnel.

 

Requirements:

All related national registry certifications and medical licenses must be current and valid

Emergency work experience in remote locations preferred

Required 2-5 years’ experience as a paramedic

 

Other Qualifications:

Good communication and people skills

Computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Mail

Organization and time management skills

Ability to focus on critical deliverables and high priority assignments

Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly

Fire fighter/ rescue background preferred

Must have a valid Driver’s License and ability to drive manual shift vehicles

Must have a valid US Passport

Must be US Citizen

Must be able to travel to the remote location of Ascension Island with no family accommodations available.

 

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

Work conditions are such that significant time will be spent walking, standing, stooping, sitting, assisting with positioning patients, and include some lifting. Must pass a pre-employment physical exam, fit for duty assessment and drug & alcohol testing.  Exposure to anesthetic gases, blood and body fluids, sharps, and other health care occupational hazards is routine. Conditions will include exposure to hospital grade cleaning solutions, flammable solutions and gases, e.g., alcohol and oxygen, as well as latex and other industrial chemicals.
