Job Description

Job objectives and responsibilities· To perform the duties of a Detainee Custody Officer in line with Immigration Legislation, Home Office Requirements & Mitie contractual standards· To maintain high standards of welfare and empathy for detainees whilst ensuring that security and safety is maintained· To live and demonstrate our values at all times

Main duties· Maintaining restrictions on detainees liberty whilst promoting and protecting their rights in compliance with legislation and company policy and procedures· Maintain high standards of security and safety at all times, promoting an environment of positive behaviour that supports the welfare of detainees and staff.· Search individuals, as necessary, seizing and storing forbidden items so that safety and security is maintained.· Accompanying detainees on transfers· Driving detainees and colleagues between sites and airports/aircraft· Receive and release individuals and property in line with company procedures to prevent incorrect release/detention of detainees or loss/misdirection of property.· Liaison with staff working at other sites, immigration officials & airport personnel· Deal with vulnerable and difficult detainees in a calm and professional manner to reduce risk and ensure a safe and secure environment is maintained at all times· Participate in the control of incidents and emergencies to ensure their swift resolution.· Complete all documentation and administration in line with company policies so that accurate contractually compliant data is maintained.· Communicate information to and about detainees, engendering positive, professional relationships with all detainees whilst maintaining the security and safety of the operation· Carry out other duties around the workplace such as administration tasks, ordering of supplies, cleaning of vehicles etc. under the direction of a local manager

Qualifications

Person Specification· Must have resided in the UK for the past 5 years and be a UK Citizen, Citizen of the Commonwealth or EEC Citizen.· Must hold a valid passport and have no restrictions on stay in the UK.· Full current UK Manual Driving Licence held for 12 months or more, Must have less than 9 penalty points and no more than one previous ban.· Staff will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS check and vetting to Counter Terrorist Checked (CTC) level· The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.· Applicants who have served any term of imprisonment or been convicted of offences of violence will not be considered· Must meet and maintain an appropriate level of fitness to be able to undertake control and restraint procedures if required· Must attend and pass a mandatory training course before employment can commence in role and then attend and pass refresher courses as required to retain accreditation as a DCO [E]·

As a 24/7 operation this role will work on an annualised hours contract working pre-advised shift patterns covering both day and night working. However, due to the unpredictable nature of the work, extra hours may need to be worked at short notice. Conversely you may be released from your shift early should operational needs allow.· Role holders will be expected to be able to rotate roles around the contract on a 12 monthly basis, if required, therefore could be working out of one of our holding facilities, vehicle bases or undertaking flights across the globe. . This enables us to create “One Workforce” which gives us operational agility where needed to meet the demands of the Immigration Service.· GCSE Maths and English at level C or above – or equivalent· Experience gained from within a uniformed service is particulary valued· Ability to deal sensitively with a wide variety of people some of whom will be agitated, confused or angry· Ability to carry out a number of different roles across the contract ie: in-country movements, including driving of company vehicles, overseas flight movements and working in our detainee holding facilities· Ability to use handheld tablets· Willingness and ability to work away from home (normally planned in advance
