Job Description - Custody Detention Officer’s - Leicestershire Police: Beaumont Leys, Keyham Lane & Euston Street (NB: May be required to cover neighbouring contracts to cover abstractions)
Salary: £22,000 (based on an average 42-hour p/week, full-time contract and including shift/weekend working) As a CCustody Detention Officer, you will ensure the safety of detained persons, staff and visitors including booking in of detainees on the force IT system (where appropriate), as well as perform administrative tasks complying with the ‘Authorised Professional Practice’ (APP - Police Custody), relevant legislation including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and associated Codes of Practice
Principal Duties And Responsibilities • To be responsible for the reception and documentation of detained persons and to ensure their safety and well-being. • To control and supervise detainees within police custody in the movement to and from the cells and in their use of the telephone, exercise, washing, feeding and visiting facilities to ensure their safe and secure custody. • To maintain a safe, clean environment for all detainees and staff including the cleaning of cells as required • To ensure visits are made to detainees as directed by the Custody Officer and in compliance with police policy and standard operating procedures. • In emergencies, assist in the restraint of violent detainees or those seeking to escape. • To maintain an accurate record of detained persons movements, treatment and welfare, to ensure the full awareness of all staff deployed within the custody suite. • Undertake Police National Computer (PNC) checks and updating force IT systems as appropriate. • To liaise with agencies, personnel and Appropriate Adults in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Professional Conduct • By utilising good interpersonal skills and welfare standards, engender a spirit of high morale and co-operation between and amongst prisoners. • Treat all prisoners, visitors, and officials with respect, courtesy and consideration. • Assist in the assessment of prisoner’s conduct, health and wellbeing. • Render first aid to either detainee or member of staff. • Maintain a high level of personal appearance as per our Code of Conduct. Communicates Effectively • Positively engages with the customer, colleagues, visitors and partner agencies at all levels; ensuring that communication is timely, accurate and is fit for purpose.
Qualifications/Person specification • Proven organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure. • Good computer/IT skills • Interpersonal and face to face communication skills based in a customer facing environment. • The ability to work independently and part of team, within a fast-paced environment. • Must be flexible and demonstrate a willingness to cover any custody facility as directed, at short notice if required to cover abstractions and emergencies •
